Exploring: Route of the Hiawatha

17 miles, 2 states, the Coeur d’Alene and Lolo National forests, 10 tunnels (one was 1.5 miles long and 45 degrees), 7 trestles, 4 little champ bike riders, and a celebratory dum dum at the end. An incredible rails to trails ride. And, as are some of the sweetest parts of the trip, completely unexpected and unplanned, as was the associated stop in Wallace, ID.

  1. Thank you for the great review of the “rails to trails” ride. We have the Katy Trail through wine country in our area. Hope you get back this way for a longer stay. As is everywhere — so much to see and do. Keep on seeing and doing! (and sharing words and photographs.) Uncle Richard
