We officially have a tendency towards and desire for possession. We have stuffed far too many sticks in our car, wanting to keep our beautiful hike with us. Our latest trend seems to be claiming the spots that are our favorite. In Santa Fe, we “claimed” the mountain behind our campground, plotting to return to it one day to build our home on it. After twice exploring the Salmon River next to our Sunny Gulch campground, Townes pulled me aside to tell me that this was now “our” rocky beach. Meaning he loved it. Meaning he felt like home. Meaning that this was good for his spirit to feel the freedom to jump from rock to rock, make some mistakes, find new bugs, and spend a few hours getting lost.
